In Grades 10-12, learners choose one technical subject from the available specialisation options. Learners may also choose between Technical Mathematics and Technical Sciences, or Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
To qualify for Mathematics and Physical Sciences, learners should achieve at least 60% in Grade 9 Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Life Orientation and Engineering Graphics and Design are compulsory.
Civil Technology: Civil Services
Civil Services focuses on the design, installation and maintenance of building services, including water systems, drainage, sanitation and basic infrastructure. Learners develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills in well-equipped workshops that reflect real working environments.
Civil Technology: Construction
Construction turns designs and plans into real structures, including homes, schools, roads and bridges. Learners are introduced to the planning, materials, teamwork and technical skills needed to create safe and reliable infrastructure. Modern construction also includes new technologies, sustainable building practices and efficient project methods.
Civil Services: Woodwork
Woodwork teaches learners how to turn raw wood into useful and creative products. Learners develop skills in measuring, cutting, joining and finishing, while also learning accuracy, craftsmanship and safe tool use. Modern tools such as CNC machines and laser cutters can support precision, but traditional woodworking skills remain essential.
Electrical Technology: Electronics
Electronics explores how electricity is controlled through components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors and diodes. These circuits power many technologies, including phones, computers, medical equipment, transport systems and renewable-energy solutions. Learners build a foundation for fields such as robotics, automation and smart systems. Achievement note: The subject achieved no failures in Grade 11 and Grade 12 in 2025.
Electrical Technology: Power Systems
Power Systems focuses on how electricity is generated, transmitted and delivered safely to homes, schools, hospitals and industries. Learners are introduced to components such as generators, transformers, substations and control systems. This subject supports future pathways in energy, renewable power, smart grids and electrical infrastructure.
Electrical Technology: Digital
Digital Electronics focuses on systems that use binary code, or 0s and 1s. These systems form the foundation of computers, smartphones, communication networks and automation. Learners study digital circuits and how they are used to build advanced technological systems.
Mechanical Technology: Automotive
Automotive Technology focuses on how vehicles are designed, built, maintained and improved. It combines mechanics, electronics and modern technology to support safer, more efficient and more sustainable transport. Learners are introduced to developments such as electric mobility, connected vehicles and improved engine technologies.
Mechanical Technology: Fitting and Machining
Fitting and Machining is the practical side of engineering and manufacturing. Learners develop skills in shaping, assembling and maintaining mechanical parts so that machines work safely and accurately. This field supports industries such as construction, automotive, manufacturing and maintenance.
Mechanical Technology: Welding and Metalwork
Welding and Metalwork teaches learners how to join, shape and fabricate metal parts. This trade supports industries such as construction, manufacturing, automotive and engineering. Learners develop practical skills, technical knowledge and an understanding of safe, durable workmanship.
Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD)
Engineering Graphics and Design is the technical language of design. Learners learn to read, interpret and draw plans used in manufacturing, architecture and engineering. EGD develops spatial awareness, accuracy, problem-solving and visual communication skills.
Physical Sciences and Technical Sciences
The school offers two science streams: Physical Sciences and Technical Sciences. Physical Sciences focuses on physics and chemistry and is often required for university studies in scientific and engineering fields. Technical Sciences focuses more strongly on applied physics and supports learners who want to follow technical career paths.
Afrikaans Home Language and First Additional Language
The Afrikaans Department develops reading, writing, listening and speaking skills while encouraging a love for the language. Learners are supported and challenged at the correct level in both Home Language and First Additional Language. Achievement note: Afrikaans Home Language and First Additional Language matric learners achieved a 100% pass rate, with three distinctions in Afrikaans First Additional Language.
Social Sciences
Social Sciences combines History and Geography to deepen learnersโ understanding of people, societies and environments. The subject develops critical thinking, problem-solving and awareness of current global issues. Learners build skills that help them become informed and responsible citizens.
English
The English Department develops strong reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills that support learners in every career path. The curriculum includes language development and literature studies in the senior grades. Achievement note: The English Department has maintained a 100% matric pass rate.
Mathematics and Technical Mathematics
The school offers Mathematics in Grades 8-12 and Technical Mathematics in Grades 10-12. Technical Mathematics aligns with the schoolโs technical focus and prepares learners for technical careers. Both Mathematics and Technical Mathematics support access to a wide range of degree and diploma programmes, depending on the requirements of the chosen field. Achievement notes: 100% pass rate in Technical Mathematics in 2024 and 2025; Pretty Tshipote won gold in the National Mathematics Olympiad in 2024.
Life Orientation
Life Orientation supports the holistic development of learners, including personal, social, emotional and physical wellbeing. The subject develops self-awareness, decision-making, goal-setting and responsible citizenship. Grade 8-9 topics include health, hygiene, the world of work and social responsibility. Grade 10-12 topics include identity, human rights, careers, study skills, social challenges and responsible decision-making. Achievement note: The subject has maintained a 100% pass rate with distinctions and no Level 1 results for the past four years.
